Sustainable Agriculture and Green Circular Economy

We drive the transformation of the agri-food sector through climate-smart practices. We promote green investment across value chains (agribusiness, manufacturing, tourism, energy, etc.) to build resilience, protect ecosystems and create new opportunities.

Why is this important?

Agriculture is a cornerstone of the economy and food security in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), although it is highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. The bioeconomy and climate-smart practices not only ensure production but also strengthen the resilience of global value chains and protect ecosystems, thereby creating new market opportunities in the region by adding value.

Key Facts

The region faces challenges such as climate variability and soil degradation, but there are also massive opportunities to finance the establishment of a regenerative economy that utilises biological resources and ecosystem services, protecting biodiversity from soil degradation.

Subsectors

Agribusiness and Regenerative Livestock Farming
  • Project Type 1

Implementation of intensive silvopastoral systems combined with living fences for beef cattle, improving soil health and reducing methane emissions.

  • Project Type 2

Transition to shade-grown coffee or cocoa crops with “Rainforest Alliance” certification, including wet processing plants with water recirculation (circular economy).

Sustainable Tourism and Ecotourism
  • Project Type

Development of an off grid ecolodge using local materials, 100% circular waste management, and local flora conservation programs funded by the tourism operation.

Green Manufacturing and Waste Valorization
  • Project Type

Bioenergy plant that uses residual biomass (husks, bagasse) from a local industry to generate heat and electricity for the production process, closing the material cycle.
