BNDES approves funds for Suzano to restore 24,000 hectares
Suzano, one of the largest pulp and paper manufacturers worlwide, will receive approximately 45 million dollars in financing from the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES). The resources will enable the ecological restoration of more than 24,000 hectares of degraded areas in permanent preservation and legal reserve regions in the Cerrado, Atlantic Forest, and Amazon biomes of Brazil.
The project promotes an iconic business model in the forestry sector, with a large company acting as a reforestation vehicle for its suppliers, strengthening the production chain and serving as a model for the sector and other economic activities.
It is estimated that the areas restored under the project will capture approximately 230,000 tons of CO2 equivalent per year.
