IDB expands Emergency Credit Line to support Jamaica’s response to Hurricane Melissa
In response to the emergency caused by Hurricane Melissa, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has expanded its Emergency Credit Line for Jamaica. The government will be able to access up to 300 million dollars for humanitarian assistance, restoring essential services for the population, and supporting other emergency measures underway. These funds are part of the IDB’s Contingent Credit Facility (CCF), originally approved in year 2018 to help the country respond to natural disasters and other emergencies.
In addition, IDB will make other instruments available for Jamaica to support the recovery response, including: i) emergency technical cooperation of up to 0,5 million dollars to cover urgent humanitarian needs; ii) immediate response facilities that can finance rehabilitation efforts of up to 20 million dollars per project; and iii) reformulation of existing projects with IDB to redirect resources toward disaster-related expenses and accelerate recovery efforts.
