IDB Invest expands financing for Colombian microenterprises, with Banco Mundo Mujer
IDB Invest has approved a senior loan to Banco Mundo Mujer in Colombia for an amount in local currency equivalent to approximately 45 million dollars (180 billion Colombian pesos). This financial operation has the strategic objective of increasing access to credit for microenterprises in the country, with a priority focus on those owned or led by women, thereby strengthening the business fabric of the most disadvantaged sectors.
The project aligns with the region’s financial inclusion strategy, seeking to reduce gender gaps in the Colombian credit market. Banco Mundo Mujer, which currently serves more than 777,000 clients, over 50% of whom are women, will use these resources to expand its lending capacity in 22 municipalities and 187 branches. This capitalization allows the institution to maintain its financial strength while scaling its social impact at the base of the economic pyramid.
In addition, IDB Invest will provide technical advisory services to enhance the bank’s sustainability and diversity strategy. This technical collaboration will focus on optimizing service models for microenterprises, ensuring that financing effectively reaches businesses operating in the informal sector or with limited access to traditional banking. With this investment, the IDB Group reaffirms its commitment to the sustainable development of the private sector in Colombia.
