IDB Invest supports energy efficiency in Belize

Belize Electricity Limited (BEL), the primary electricity transmission and distribution company in Belize, will receive a long-term corporate loan from IDB Invest for up to 15 million dollars to finance essential infrastructure and operational improvements.

The investment project will improve network performance through smart grid deployment, IT modernization, network upgrades, and the expansion of LED street lighting. These initiatives are expected to reduce transmission and distribution losses while contributing to Belize’s long-term energy sustainability and resilience goals.
