Strengthening sustainability leadership in Latin America’s agricultural value chains
The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and the U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC) have reinforced their strategic partnership to enhance corporate transparency and sustainability reporting within the agricultural sector in Latin America. Since 2022, this collaboration has focused on equipping stakeholders—from farmers to importers—with the necessary tools to communicate environmental and social impacts consistently. The initiative responds to increasing global market demands for rigorous, comparable data regarding the sustainability of supply chains, particularly in the soy industry.
Throughout 2025, the program delivered specialized workshops on materiality and sustainability reporting to USSEC members in Mexico, Costa Rica, and Peru. This effort has reached over 100 participants from 11 countries across the region. Furthermore, the partnership facilitated the training of more than 50 executives through the GRI Professional Certification Program. This capacity-building focus ensures that regional leaders can effectively implement international standards, thereby improving the credibility of sustainability disclosures in high-impact agricultural markets.
Looking ahead to 2026, the collaboration aims to further institutionalize these practices to ensure that regional agribusinesses remain competitive in global markets. For the Latin American and Caribbean region, these transparency efforts are vital for aligning local operations with international ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) expectations. By fostering a culture of accountability and data-driven disclosure, the partnership supports the long-term resilience of agricultural value chains and facilitates their integration into sustainable global trade networks.
